Analysis of Pediatric Rasmussen Encephalitis: Experience from A Tertiary Care Hospital in Bangladesh

Background: Rasmussens encephalitis (RE) is rare progressive cerebral inflammatory disease predominantly affecting pediatric population. The key clinical features are seizure and hemiparesis. Seizure mostly focal with or without epileptia partialis continua (EPC). Diagnosis established by EEG showing epileptic discharges slowing, cortical atrophy in neuroimaging T cell dominated biopsy autopsy. This study was done to describe the clinical, laboratory treatment of RE Bangladesh perspective.
 Materials & Methods: Department Pediatric Neurology, IPNA, BSMMU, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Four admitted children who were diagnosed as from January 2016 July 2019 included this study. Retrospective detail data all four patients collected analyzed.
 Results: age ranging 3-12 years, male. Cognitive decline, speech disorder, hemiparesis observed patients. Among them 1 had prodrome fever. All seizure, onset. 2 EPC. Treatment given mainly immune modulatory drugs (Intravenous methyl prednisolone, IV immunoglobulin, oral steroids) antiepileptic drugs. On follow up consequences form hemiparesis, epilepsy, dysphasia, cognitive disorder etc.
 Conclusion: common presentation. EPC 50% cases on cases.
